This is what we’re talking about: They are having fun!!!
This was sent in by Chris Douglas, coach of the 5-Pitch team sponsored by Raymond’s. Looks like they had fun!!!!
<<The year started with a rigorous tryout evaluation which started out with approximately 80-100 kids, and which we managed to whittle down to the “chosen 9”: Team 2 Raymond’s.
Well that’s not really what happened, but it sounds way more awesome. 🙂 Our group of kids all go to Osgoode Public School and are all friends to begin with, so it was an easy transition from the school yard to the baseball stadium. As a Coaching Staff, we decided that we were going to have practices every Tuesday before our big games on Wednesday evenings, that could be held at our home field Joella Stadium, or a quick charter as far away as Four Seasons Park, in the South of Riverside. We finished the season undefeated with a perfect record of 11-0, and took home the Championship in front of a sold out crowd at the Osgoode Community Centre Stadium. What do teams that win Championships do?…..they have a parade! It just so happened that the Osgoode Canada Day parade was planned on the same day as ours, so we let Canada crash our party. It was mint.
All kidding aside, we had an awesome group of kids and parents as well. Yes, we did have practices, not to make the kids better so they can “win”, but to have them learn a little more baseball skills, all while being able to spend an extra night out after school with their friends and have fun. I’m not joking when I say that when I would pick my daughter up from school, that kids on the team would come up to me and ask if we had practice tonight. That was cool. They enjoyed the practices equally as much as the games. It was great as a coach and parent to see the kids having fun, and becoming great little ball players. I want to point out that our group of parents were all awesome and engaged as much as the kids. Everyone of them, at some point of the season either helped out at practices or at the games. It was awesome to see moms and dads that would help out at the practices, as Jake Miall (Coach) and myself wouldn’t have been able to run the practices without their help. I also want to mention that all of the other teams were great as well. From what we could see, is that all the teams were having fun, and the other coaches were all fully engaged in the games and great teachers for their kids. It’s great to see all the parents that would come out to watch, and to all the parents that would either coach or help out on the field or bench when needed. Other teams were also having practices as well, either before games or on other nights, which is cool to see the level of interest parents have in their kids fun and development.
We had such a great season that included tons of smiles, laughs, fist pumps and high fives. Can’t wait for next season to be back to back “Champs”. >>
